About Us
The Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to promoting parallel and non-commercial cinema in Chennai. With a thriving community of over 500 members, including filmmakers, cinematographers, cine technicians, and passionate film enthusiasts, ICAF has become a cornerstone of Chennai’s film culture.
Since 2003, ICAF has proudly organized the prestigious Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF), with support from the Tamil Nadu government since 2008. Each year, CIFF has grown in both attendance and acclaim, drawing attention to world cinema. Beyond CIFF, ICAF actively curates world-class films throughout the year, hosting monthly screenings and organizing international film festivals in collaboration with embassies and consulates.

Vision of the current committee is to is to elevate the Chennai International film Festival to the ranks of prestigious global film festivals like Cannes and Berlinale. By fostering world-class cinematic talent, creating a platform for diverse voices, and building strong international collaborations, we aim to make the Chennai International Film Festival Southeast Asia’s premier cultural event, recognized globally for its excellence in film and artistic innovation.

Mr. Thangaraj served as the General Secretary of Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) for nearly 21 years, playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s vision and growth. Under his leadership, ICAF gained prominence, particularly through the successful establishment and expansion of the Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF). In 2024, after two decades of remarkable service, Mr. Thangaraj retired, leaving behind a legacy of passion and commitment to cinema.
