NFDC presents in association with Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation a CINEMAS OF INDIA Showcase
We are happy to inform you that,NFDC in association withINDO CINE APPRECIATION FOUNDATIONpresents aCINEMAS OF INDIA Showcase with a few select films from across the countryproduced by NFDC.
The festival will be held from 29thFebruary 2016 to 4th March 2016 at Tagore Film Centre, NFDC , Music College Road, R.A.Puram , Chennai-600 028
The well appreciated and much travelled Attihanu Mattu Kanaja(lang – Kannada) . directed by debut director M.S. Prakash Babu will be the inaugural film. The festival will close with a Manipuri film Sanabi directed by Aribam Syam Sharma .
Movies to be screened
1. Attihanu Mattu Kanaja /Dir.:Prakash Babu/Kannada/2014(29 Feb 2016, 6.30pm)
Gouri, a documentary filmmaker takes a journey along with her friend. She is trying to collect material for her documentary project on instrumental music. They go to a village with the help of a schoolteacher. They travel to meet an instrumental musician, who has gone some place elsewhere to give a performance. Both are forced to stay in the village till the musician returns. Film tries to capture the human attitude when they are placed in a condition/situation/environment which is familiar and at the same time unfamiliar. As the seemingly simple yet complex situations develop, how these characters fits in to a landscape and climate as much mental as physical. Some time “vision” isn’t what is visible, sound isn’t exactly what is heard.

2. Kaliyachan/Dir.:Farook Abdul Rahiman/Malayalam/2015n(01 Mar 2016– 6.30 pm)
The film is about the Kathakali actor, Kunhiraman, and his relationship with his guru, Asan. Over the years, as the actor gets popular, he becomes arrogant and takes to confronting his guru.

3. Vees Mhanje Vees/Dir.:Uday Bhandarkar/ Marathi/2014 (02 Mar 2016 – 6.30 pm)
Shailaja Vaidya, a Final Year Engineering student returns to her village, Shibarga, to fulfill the promise she has made to her ailing father Annaji Vaidya. The promise is to reopen the school “Sharada Vidya Mandir” which her father started in memory of her late mother, Sharada. Shailaja reopens the school but she is just not able to control even 11 children because Raju, the self proclaimed leader, is just not willing to accept Shailaja as their new ‘teacher’ since she’s a lady and according to him a ‘lady’ can never be their teacher. But when all is going well, Shailaja gets a rude shock when she finds out that schools with less than 20 students will be shut down unless numbers are met. Shailaja’s frustration drives her back to the hospital where Annaji is recuperating but on seeing Annaji’s remarkable recovery she decides not to voice her frustration. But, the number of students swings like a pendulum every day until the Inspection Day when the count of students does not account for 20. Shailaja confronts the Inspector and speaks her mind out about the warped rules and number games being played by the Education Department. But her efforts bear fruits when the students help her achieve the target.
4. Qissa- Tale of a Lonely Ghost /Dir.:Anup Singh/Punjabi/2013 (03 Mar 2016 – 6.30 pm)
Umber Singh is a Sikh who loses everything during the separation of India in 1947 and is forced to leave his homeland. He obsessively wishes for a male heir. When his fourth daughter is born, he decides to wage a fight against destiny.
Sakhi is a divorced woman who is a dancer at the State Dance Academy. One day, a thief falls in love with her after seeing her performance and in order to gain her attention he steals her horse.
