Movies to be Screened
1. THITHI (28th July – 7 PM)
In a remote village of NODE KOPPALU in Mandya district of Karnataka, three generations of sons come face to face after the death of their centenarian grandfather. The film centres on the conflict between the son, grandson, and great grandson, and their reactions to the death. Their overtures intertwine at the celebration of THITHI -an after death ritual. This is a film that has garnered international reputation after it won the prestigious Locarno International film festival.
2. MR & MRS RAMACHARI ( 29th July – 4 PM)
Love evolves between the Hero and the Heroin who are studying in the same college. The heroin, at a point of time, steers away from the hero on some misunderstanding. The story line dwells on the egoism, mistrust and malice between the two individuals. At the end both of them understands their misgivings and the love blossoms again.
3. 1ST RANK RAJU (29th July – 6.30 -PM)
Raju the hero of the film is a bright boy. He is a bookworm whose world is his books and he is not at all street smart. This trait will play villain in his future. Then his father cajoles him and introduces him to the outer world. But Raju faces problems to cope with this unseen outside world. In his dire times,the father stands by him and prepares Raju to the vagaries of life.
4. RANGI TARANGA ( 30th July – 4 PM)
This is a romantic thriller set in a remote village in the serene Malnad region. Goutham, a handsome youth accompanies his wife Swetha to an ancient house that belonged to her ancestors. Some gory incidents, there, cause than to suffer. By quirk of circumstances Goutham will be indicted in a murder case and his journalist friend Sandhya comes to his rescue. A tight script and an interesting story telling module has made this film a block buster in recent years.
5. SHIVALINGA ( 30th July – 6.30 PM)
‘Rahim’ is an innocent and gullible peddlaer who pushed out of a train by a blind man. Police come to the conclusion that it is a case of suicide. But Rahim’s lover Sangeetha pleads with the Commissioner to reopen the case as Rahim was no coward to commit suicide. The case is entrusted to Shiva, CID officer. After investigation Shiva finds out that it is a murder and in his effort to pin down the culprit, Rahim’s pet dove comes to his aid.
6. KARVA ( 31st July – 3 PM)
A flamboyant son of a rich industrialist plots along with friends to kidnap his sister and extricate money from his father. When they think everything is going well according to their plan, by a quirk of fate they were forced to stay back in the house where they had hidden the kidnapped sister. The unnatural and strange events takes place in the old bungalow gives a curious twist to the story line.
7. U-TURN (31st July – 5 PM)
The protagonist in this film is a news channel reporter. During her effort to file a story on traffic rules, she finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery. Police investigation proves that the reporter is innocent and the death is a suicide case. But the reporter, who is convinced that the death is a murder, pesters the police departments for further investigation. The film revolves round the investigation.
8. MAARIKONDAVARU ( 31st July – 7 PM)
Three stories of renowned Kannada writer Sri Devanur Mahadeva were amalgamated to create a film. The film revolves round a leader of feudal nature of a village and a soft spoken youth who unravels the heinous deeds of the leader. The film with its powerful portrayal of the subject and the use of symbolism in a most effective way also reflects the travails and the tribulations caused by the prevailing social system.
