Ljubljana, Slovenia, Matic lives in a large block of flats with his mother. As his father is temporarily working in Libya, they live alone. Matics’ life changes dramatically when he is chosen to feature in a film. When the shooting is over, the film company gives him a present, a huge black Newfoundlander. Although his mother is not really pleased about it, Matic brings the dog home. And that is just the beginning of their adventures…

A widow grieves, discovers her deceased spouse’s secret, and builds a relationship with a talented Bosnian boy, Amir, who used to play the violin with her husband in a local bar. Dora listens to him and impressed by his talent decides to help him, gifting Amir her husband’s violin and making him study with a teacher who, she discovers, had been Mihael’s lover for years. Dora’s son, however, is not pleased with the arrangement. For Julian, the violin is first and foremost a financial object, and he wants to sell it for money or exchange it for sexual favours.

A talented but spoilt young man smothered in the affection of his adoring mother and heedless of his aloof father; his grandfather, his new girl-friend, are the central characters. The masterfully portrayed characters reveal the inexorable issues or baggage, they bring with them, and ultimately their own baggage becomes a ruinous physical burden.
